Frequently Asked Questions

How far back can I go?

As far as Yahoo Finance has data for that asset. For most US stocks, decades. For crypto, since the asset listed (~2014 for early coins, more recent for newer tokens). For indices, decades.

Why does this matter?

It's a reality check. Looking at hypothetical past gains is fun, but the more useful framing is: "If I keep doing what I'm doing for the next decade, what do similar past decades suggest?" That's where forward-looking calcs (Compound, DCA) come in.

Does this account for splits and dividends?

Yahoo Finance prices are split-adjusted but typically not dividend-reinvested. Actual total returns for dividend-paying stocks are slightly higher than shown. For a dividend-aware projection, see our Dividend Reinvestment calculator.
